NHS Confederation - NHS performance figures show the need for redesigned services and more social care funding

NHS Confederation chief executive Niall Dickson, responded to the recent NHS performance figures

“These figures reveal a service under enormous pressure that is struggling to cope. It was not designed to care for so many older people with long-term health conditions and it is unsurprising that this is affecting patient care.

“The case for more funding for social care is immediate and unanswerable both to pressure on the NHS and to relieve suffering of those currently being denied the support they need. That said everyone in the health service recognises that this is not just about money – the health and care system needs to be redesigned to meet the challenges it now faces and it needs time and support to be able to do this.”
