NHS Confederation - Welsh NHS Confederation comments on falling of Public Health Bill

A spokesperson for the Welsh NHS Confederation said: “We are disappointed that the Public Health (Wales) Bill has failed to pass.

“While legislation is just one of several ways of addressing some of our nation’s public health challenges, our members felt the Bill provided a golden opportunity to help improve the health of the population.

“Public health is one of the biggest issues facing NHS Wales, both now and in the future. When it comes to addressing this, health cannot be seen as a standalone issue and it is the responsibility of a wide range of sectors to develop a ‘health in all policies’ approach.

“We will continue to work with our partners to improve the health of the nation. As highlighted in our 2016 Challenge document, public health must be a key priority for the next Welsh Government if we are to secure the future of our health service.”
