New Big Lottery Fund NI Committee members announced.

The Big Lottery Fund is pleased to announce the appointment of two new Northern Ireland committee members to make decisions on how National Lottery funding is invested to improve people’s lives.

Charlie Mack and Sandra McNamee join NI committee Chair Frank Hewitt and committee members Dr Michael Dobbins, Tony Doherty and Eileen Mullan to oversee a range of funding programmes and activities to ensure that National Lottery funding makes a difference to the lives of people and communities most in need.

Charlie Mack, new Big Lottery Fund NI committee memberCharlie Mack has worked as a director in a number of large UK voluntary sector organisations and is currently Chief Executive of the Extern Group. Previously he worked at RNIB as NI Director and subsequently UK Group Director.

He has also worked at a senior level in local government and the private sector in England before taking up a career in the voluntary sector. He is a Non Executive Member of the Local Government Staff Commission and was previously a Committee Chair at the NI Social Care Council. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Directors.

Mr Mack said: "I am privileged to be appointed to the Big Lottery Fund to play my part in building a better Northern Ireland. The Big Lottery Fund has an important role to play in empowering people most in need across Northern Ireland. I am looking forward to helping to make decisions that will support people to improve their lives and build better communities."

Sandra McNamee, New Big Lottery Fund NI committee memberSandra McNamee is Director of McNamee Consulting and has over eighteen years of experience of working in the community and voluntary sector, in particular the children’s and women’s sectors. In her current role she works with a range of clients, in the areas of training development and delivery, design and implementation of evaluation frameworks and strategic and business planning.

Ms McNamee’s previous roles include Management Co-ordinator at North Down and Ards Women’s Aid and Business Manager at NSPCC.  She has also worked as Education and Training Coordinator for the Children’s Law Centre. She has been central to the development of preventative education in Northern Ireland through her work with Women’s Aid Federation Northern Ireland.

Ms McNamee said: “I am absolutely delighted to be appointed to the Big Lottery Fund NI Committee.  Over the years I have seen the huge impact the Big Lottery Fund can make in tackling disadvantage and bringing real improvements to those who are most in need.  I look forward to taking up this role and to playing my part in the delivery of our new and exciting strategic framework and vision, which clearly puts people in the lead.”

Big Lottery Fund NI Chair Frank Hewitt said: “I am looking forward to working with our two new committee members and calling on their expertise to make important decisions on projects that will have a positive impact on communities throughout Northern Ireland.

 “Charlie and Sandra join us at an exciting time – we are putting our new strategic plan, People in the Lead, into action as we develop a new funding programme, People and Communities, which will open in January. On behalf of our UK board I would like to welcome our new members to the committee.”

 Mr Mack and Ms McNamee will take up their posts on 1 November.

The Big Lottery Fund’s NI Committee is responsible for strategy, policy, planning and management of programmes in Northern Ireland within an overall strategic and financial framework determined by the UK Board.
