New ‘Cymraeg’ website to support and promote the use of the Welsh Language

First Minister of Wales Carwyn Jones has recently launched a new ‘Cymraeg’ website and is encouraging people across Wales to use the site to learn, use and enjoy the language as part of their daily life – whatever their level of Welsh.

The website offers information on the range of Welsh language opportunities available, from introducing Welsh into the family, finding activities in Welsh for children and teenagers, to the benefits of using the language in the workplace.

It includes the first ever all-Wales Welsh Language Events finder, a Welsh App of the week feature and a course finder, listing all Welsh for Adult courses. The website also acts as a portal linking to other sites offering useful Welsh language services as well as digital resources in Welsh.

The ‘Cymraeg’ website (www.llyw.cymru/cymraeg) is the first in a series of Welsh Government sub-sites to be launched on the new .cymru and .wales domain.  New additional features will be introduced over the coming months as part of ongoing work to develop the site further and to respond to the needs of users.

First Minister said:

"Providing people with the opportunity to use and practice the Welsh language in their daily lives is at the heart of Bwrw Mlaen, our vision for the future of the language.   The new Cymraeg website is a great source of information about forthcoming events and courses available in local communities and I encourage people across Wales to use the site to learn, use and enjoy the language.

"It is also pleasing that the site is the first of a number of sub-sites the Welsh Government are launching on the new .cymru and .wales domain.  Securing bilingual domain names is a symbolic step forward.  It will help promote the Welsh language online and that’s essential for the language to thrive.

"As a Government we are committed to promoting the Welsh language.  The recent survey on the use of the language showed that there is a lot to be positive about and a great deal of good work is already underway.  We will continue to build on this to ensure a living language for the future."
