The new Director of the NCA’s Child Exploitation and Online Protection Command was confirmed yesterday as Will Kerr, currently Assistant Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland.

ACC Kerr replaces Johnny Gwynne, who joined Police Scotland in September 2016 on promotion to Deputy Chief Constable.

NCA Director General Lynne Owens said:

“Will was an exceptional candidate and I am delighted to welcome him to the National Crime Agency. Under Johnny Gwynne’s leadership the NCA’s CEOP Command delivered significant change, working in partnership with others, which transformed the UK’s collaborative approach to investigating child sexual abuse and protecting children.

“This is a complex and constantly evolving challenge and there is a lot still to do. I feel very confident to have Will in the driving seat.”

Will Kerr has 25 years policing experience in Northern Ireland. He is the current Head of Crime Ops. Prior to that he held strategic responsibility for policing in the Greater Belfast area. His previous roles include Assistant Chief Constable Criminal Justice, and Head of the NI Police College. As a senior investigating officer he led a number of high profile murder and serious crime investigations.
