Nick Giles, Managing Director of Ordnance Survey Leisure, commented: “It is estimated that around 30,000 people take part in the Three Peaks Challenge every year. The new map has been created to ultimately make it easier, safer and more enjoyable for individuals to plan for and take part in the national Three Peak Challenge by providing a single source of information covering all three mountains.

“We are approaching the busiest season for people looking to take part in the Three Peaks Challenge. We would urge everyone to be fully prepared for the challenge and always carry a paper map, GPS devices and mapping apps are great, but you never know when batteries will fail. The OS Three Peaks map could be the most important item in your backpack.”

The new map is divided into four areas with three parts covering the mapping of the peaks and the fourth part featuring a handy road map covering the three locations. The maps also feature the recommended walking routes for each peak, plus coordinates for the start of the routes.

Another feature available with the new map is the option to select the photography on the cover. Through the online ordering system, at www.os.uk/shop, customers can select which peak to feature on the cover. In the future customers will also be able to add their own photo to the cover for the ultimate souvenir.

The map has been created in conjunction with several organisations and charities responsible for the management of the mountains. These include the Three Peaks Partnership, which consists of representatives from Snowdonia National Park Authority, The Lake District National Park, The National Trust, The British Mountaineering Council and The John Muir Trust.
