New Year Honour for STFC's Sue Carter

The Science and Technology Facilities Council congratulates our colleague Sue Carter on being awarded the Medal of the Order of the British Empire in the New Year Honours List 2017 for her services to Science and Technology.

Sue is a key member of STFC’s Director of Laboratories team based at our RAL site in Oxfordshire.

Dr Andrew Taylor, Executive Director of STFC National Laboratories said: “Sue is the epitome of the perfect PA - the “go to” person for the National Laboratories’ 1400 staff, across three geographically separate sites and many different scientific and engineering disciplines.  Positive, friendly, knowledgeable and tirelessly hard-working, she is the person everyone approaches to get things done.

“She was the driving force behind the highly successful Open Days at the Harwell Campus in 2015, when 17,000 members of the public visited the site and engaged with its science and engineering programmes.  Sue also mentors a network of Personal Assistants across STFC fostering the personal development of the individuals involved and creating cohesion across the organisation.

“Outside work, Sue is a weekly volunteer at the Sir Michael Sobell House Hospice in Oxford, where she brings her caring, positive and generous approach to spending time with those at the end of their life.”

STFC would also like to congratulate our colleague Dr David Watson, who is Director of IBM Research UK, on being awarded the Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to Science and Engineering Research. David works with STFC colleagues at the Hartree Centre at STFC’s Daresbury laboratory.
