New look walking guides to inspire people to #GetOutside

Ordnance Survey has teamed up with Crimson Publishing’s popular Pathfinder walking books to re-launch the range as OS Pathfinder Guides this spring.

Featuring over 2000 outstanding circular walks across Great Britain, each route is accompanied by its own OS map with the directions and waypoints plotted and described in detail.

For 25 years Pathfinder Guides have been the definitive companion to the highways, byways, hills, moors and coastline of Britain. With over 90 titles in the series and routes throughout the country, the guides make walking accessible for all, whether close to home or on holiday further afield.

The new look guides are available in two series with the first seven books recently published and 15 more launching during the spring and summer of 2016.

Each book in the OS Pathfinder Guide series includes 28 beautiful circular countryside walks with OS Explorer map extracts, expected walk durations, terrain information plus other useful details such as GPS waypoints, suitable parking, good pubs and places of interest.

The OS Pathfinder Short Walks series includes 20 circular routes in each book. Accessible routes ranging from two to six miles make these walks ideal for all members of the family.

Nick Giles, Managing Director of Ordnance Survey Leisure, said: “Our aim is to be more than just a provider of high-quality mapping, and through our partnership with Crimson Publishing we have been able to produce the new look OS Pathfinder Guides, which are another example of how OS is encouraging and enabling people to get outside.

“We understand that some people like to plot their own routes and adventures, but we are also aware that people like to follow tried and tested routes and the new guides provide a great selection of inspiring walks capturing the amazing landscapes of Great Britain.”

Andy Riddle, Managing Director or Crimson, the publisher of Pathfinder guides, said: “We are delighted to be combining our Pathfinder authors’ passion for finding beautiful walks with the mapping expertise of Ordnance Survey. It is a natural collaboration for each of our organisations and we’re excited about the opportunity to make walking even more accessible and enjoyable for all.”
