Northern Ireland Assembly Nominates Positive Futures as Charity of the Year

The Northern Ireland Assembly has announced that Positive Futures has been chosen as its charity of the year.

Mitchel McLaughlin, MLA, Speaker of the Assembly said: “I am delighted to announce that Positive Futures has been chosen by the staff of the Northern Ireland Assembly as its charity of the year. I have made no secret of my priority that the Assembly should show respect to the community it represents. This annual initiative is part of that and demonstrates our commitment to supporting the work of the voluntary and community sector across Northern Ireland.

“Positive Futures is the leading local charity for people with a learning disability, acquired brain injury or autistic spectrum condition. The charity supports children, young people and adults with such conditions and their families in Northern Ireland. It is dedicated to ensuring that everyone has a role to play in our society; and that learning disabilities of any kind should not prevent them from full and active participation. The Assembly is very pleased to be able to help them with their important work and I personally look forward to being involved in a number of their events throughout the year.

“Positive Futures will benefit from any Assembly corporate fundraising activities which take place in Parliament Buildings this year. It is important to point out that other charities will still be able to host events at Parliament Buildings, with the support of MLAs.”

Agnes Lunny, Chief Executive of Positive Futures said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Positive Futures and we would like to thank the Assembly staff for selecting us as their Charity Partner for the Year. As a local charity working in Northern Ireland we are honoured to have been chosen and relish the opportunity to showcase how, together, we can make a difference and move the issues of learning disability, acquired brain injury and autistic spectrum conditions further up society’s agenda.
