Ofcom awards new community radio licences in Leeds, Bradford, Beverley and Kingston-upon-Hull

Ofcom has announced the award of four new community radio licences in Leeds, Bradford, Beverley and Kingston-upon-Hull. 

Licences have been awarded to Bradford Asian Radio, Beverley FM, Hull Kingston Radio, and AKASH Radio, for a service in Leeds.

Community radio services are provided on a not-for-profit basis focusing on the delivery of specific social benefits to a particular geographical community or a community of interest.

AKASH Radio (Akash Radio Leeds Limited)

AKASH Radio will provide a community radio service for Punjabi-speaking communities in Leeds.

Bradford Asian Radio (Bradford Asian Radio Limited)

Hull Kingston Radio will provide a community radio service to the people of East Hull.

The licences are awarded for a five-year period.

  • Radio Make a Change (Make a Change Community Limited), Bradford;
  • Hull Community Radio (Hull Community Radio), East Hull; and
  • South Humberside Community Radio (South Humberside Community Radio Limited), Winterton, North Lincolnshire).
