Ofcom invites applications for community radio licences

Ofcom is today inviting applications for community radio licences in locations in South East England, excluding the area inside the M25.

Community radio services are provided on a not-for-profit basis, focusing on the delivery of specific social benefits to a particular geographical community or a community of interest.

Ofcom is making changes to its process in response to feedback from the sector and potential applicants. As a result, Ofcom will accept applications from throughout the region, and not exclude any areas on the basis of FM frequency availability, as it has done in the past.

Ofcom is setting out guidance on the availability of suitable frequencies in different parts of the South East.

The closing date for applications is 20 October 2015.
