Ofcom threaten action to avoid consumer confusion over UHD TV

Steve Unger, Ofcoms CTO suggested, this week, that they would consider regulation to avoid a risk of consumer confusion if UHD TV labelling is unclear.

Steve Unger, speaking at this week's DTG Summit, called upon industry to ensure that consumers are given clear advice and information when purchasing UHD/ 4K TVs to avoid any risk of mis-representation. He called for an industry kite-mark that has cross industry support. In his speech Steve Unger suggested that Ofcom would consider intervention of they viewed a risk of consumer mis-information.

Industry is already in collaborative discussions regarding clear and co-ordinated approach on consumer messaging through alliances and work across Europe through bodies such as Digital Europe and the European Broadcasting Union.
