Official opening of Wales’ newest seafront restaurant

The successful Anglesey based restaurant company – Dylan’s - has opened its second restaurant in north Wales at the iconic Moranedd Building in Criccieth.

Having received Tourism Investment Support for its development, the Restaurant was officially opened last week on Thursday [21 May] by Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, Ken Skates.

Located right on the beach at Criccieth the Art Deco Moranedd building, designed by Portmeirion founder Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, Dylan's will give diners stunning panoramic views of the North Wales landscape. Open 7 days a week the ethos already established in Menai Bridge will be replicated in Criccieth with the emphasis on locally sourced seafood and farm produce.

In opening this latest venture, the Deputy Minister, said:

“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to support this exciting development for Criccieth, this building is such an iconic spot for the area and having its long term future secured is excellent news for the community, the economy and for the tourism industry in Wales.

“Dylan’s is part of a growing trend in Wales for high quality seafront restaurants with an emphasis on local produce.   We’ve recently launched our Food Tourism Action plan, which aims to help visitors to Wales discover our world-class food and drink. Tourists are increasingly seeking local, authentic and novel experiences linked intrinsically to the places they visit and Dylan’s is an excellent example.  I wish the team every success for the coming season.”

Joint owners David Evans and Robin Hodgson, said recently:

"We are extremely proud of what we have achieved at Morannedd. We have already served many customers since we opened to the public last Friday, and the feedback has been very positive.

"This project has not come without the hard work of all our staff and team of contractors and we wish to thank them all for their dedication over the past few months. We must also thank the local community here in Criccieth who have shown us nothing but a warm welcome and support since the word go."

One community who will undoubtedly benefit from the new restaurant will be the local fishermen as Dylan's and their kitchen team feel passionately about the need to consider our natural environment and what is available on our doorstep. At Menai Bridge there is a positive working relationship with local fishermen and they are paid a fair price for local seasonal produce, throughout the year. This will be extended in Criccieth, significantly increasing the amount of money spent by the restaurant direct with the North Wales fishing industry.

The new development in Criccieth has been supported by the Welsh Government by £140,000 through the Tourism Investment Support Scheme fund with the aim of creating up to 30 jobs in its first year.

Investment through the Tourism Investment Support Scheme has generated an additional expenditure of £13.97 million and created safeguarded 311  jobs.  The funding helps the industry in Wales to improve to meet with customer expectations and demand.
