Op Captura ‘Most Wanted’ fugitive arrested in Germany

A man wanted on suspicion of indecent assault and making indecent images of children has been arrested in Germany.

Carlo Dawson, 52, from Croydon, was arrested recently (Thursday 24 September) in the town of Linden after intelligence was shared with the German authorities to suggest Dawson was residing in the area.

Between October 1996 and October 1997, it is believed Dawson indecently assaulted a 12-year-old girl. When his computer was seized in 2013, officers found a number of indecent images of children but Dawson later failed to appear at court.

He featured in the National Crime Agency and Crimestoppers Operation Captura appeal to track down suspected or convicted criminals on the run in Spain. To date, 72 of 86 fugitives have been located .

He is the third Most Wanted fugitive to be arrested this month following the arrests of James Tarrant in the Netherlands and Robert Mortby in Gibraltar, and has been remanded in custody pending further enquiries.

Dave Allen from the National Crime Agency said:

“This is the second Most Wanted arrest this week and a fabulous result for the officers who continue to work tirelessly to locate missing fugitives.

“Anyone who has been watching ‘Hunted’ will realise how difficult it is to stay on the run. The paranoia and constant looking over your shoulder will take its toll.

“There really is nowhere to hide and the remaining 14 fugitives wanted on Operation Captura should take note – we will find you and bring you back to the UK”.

Lord Ashcroft, KCMG PC, Founder and Chair of Crimestoppers, said:

“This has been an incredibly successful year for Operation Captura – Dawson is the 7th fugitive to have been arrested in 2015 and I’m sure he won’t be the last. We continue to urge the public to help us find the remaining 14 Operation Captura fugitives evading justice.”
