Out and about for half term fun

If you're struggling to find something to keep your children entertained this half term, look no further than the London Transport Museum and the mighty River Thames for fun, inspiring activities suitable for all ages.

At the museum in Covent Garden, you can enjoy a time-travelling adventure story all about Victorian London, but you may need to wear a disguise!

Get messy by joining a make and take workshop and use stencils to create a busy street or build your own bus. You can also visit the new Family Station - a one-stop activity shop where you can design your own postcards and take photos as you explore.

Activities take place all week and young people under 17 go free. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Visit www.ltmuseum.co.uk

Messing about on the river

There's still time to say farewell to the fabulous HippopoThames at St Katharine's dock - but be quick, he's only here until the end of October. This happy hippo was created by renowned Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, as part of last month's Totally Thames festival.

You could travel on a river tour with City Cruises and save yourself some money. For a limited time only, if you purchase an adult ticket, a child can travel with you for no extra charge. Visit the City Cruises ticket office at Westminster, Tower or Greenwich piers and you will receive a free child's ticket with the purchase of any adult single or return ticket.

You can also see London from a different perspective on board a London Eye Circular River Cruise. The exciting 40-minute trip includes commentary from specialist guides. The cruises leave from London Eye Pier every hour and you can save 10 per cent by booking online in advance - ticket for a family of four is £36.
