Over £1 million for diverse touring projects

We’re investing a further £1 million in seven organisations through the 28th round of our Strategic Touring programme.

The funding has been awarded to projects that will raise the profile of international work and reach less engaged and more diverse communities.

Organisations benefitting from the investment will also be working with people living with dementia and developing participatory events in non-traditional arts venues.

The Projects

Tomorrow's Warriors Ltd will be funded for "The Jazz Ticket" a one-year touring programme that aims to develop new audiences for jazz and music of black origin through engaging young musicians in schools.

Hull Truck Theatre will bring a month-long international tour of the UK premiere of Market Theatre's The Suitcase to main stages in the North of England. This will raise the profile for international work across the country, and increase the range of touring work by and for people from diverse backgrounds.

Nottingham Contemporary will receive funding for a national tour of works by Lubaina Himid as well as a survey of the Black Arts Movement in the 1980s. An extensive public engagement programme at each venue will examine race, gender and social justice.

Vamos Theatre has been awarded more than funding to help cultural venues in the Midlands, South East and South West to offer more artistic experiences to older people and people with dementia.

Breckland Council's Silver Social will tour a mix of live shows and interactive activities to 10 community venues across Breckland. The project will provide older people living in highly rural areas with an important opportunity to engage with high-quality arts.

Our Strategic Touring programme makes it easier for organisations and artists to bring great art and culture to people across England. The programme focuses on areas where people have low engagement with the arts and those that rely on touring for much of their arts provision.
