Patients Association - Changing behaviour to reduce antimicrobial resistance

Katherine Murphy, Chief Executive of The Patients Association (PA), responded to new guidelines published by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), aimed at changing behaviour to reduce antimicrobial resistance.

“The Patients Association welcomes the guidelines published by NICE, which seek to tackle the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance by providing patients with the information they need to reduce unnecessary use of antibiotics.”

“NICE’s guidelines, which also draw attention to infection prevention make an important point on the role the general public can play in reducing infection prevention and protecting patient safety. Alongside these information campaigns, more needs to be done to inform the Government on this issue which is why the new All-Party Parliamentary Group for Patient Safety is launching an Inquiry into infection prevention.”
