Pensions review will improve understanding of risk to savers from government's hasty reforms, says TUC

Commenting on the review of pensions to be launched today (Monday), led by David Blake of the Cass Business School, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“The review provides an important opportunity to gather robust evidence that will help us understand how the government’s hasty and ill thought-out pension reforms will affect people saving for retirement.

“The annuities market was broken, but the government’s plans risk undermining pensions saving altogether, rather than providing savers with the products they actually want.

“There is an urgent need to ensure that low and middle earners who are starting pension savings thanks to automatic enrolment can turn them into reliable income in retirement. The review is an opportunity to take the considered approach needed to solve this problem.”
