Power cuts: a guide for consumers

Severe weather is currently forecast across Great Britain. Electricity distribution companies, who own and operate the local networks, are making preparations ahead of this weather.

Who to contact if you have a power cut

If you experience an unexpected power cut, you should contact your electricity distribution company. It owns and operates the towers and cables that bring electricity from the national transmission network to towns and villages. These companies don’t sell the electricity to you – this is done by the electricity suppliers.

You can find out who your electricity distribution company is by looking at the bill you get from your supplier. Or have a look at your electricity meter cabinet as they usually show who the distribution company is.

Look at our Map: who operates the electricity distribution network?open key term pop-up to find out who operates the electricity distribution network in your area. Visit the Energy Networks Association website for contact details.
