RCUK welcomes HM Treasury statement on continuity of funding under Horizon 2020

Research Councils UK welcomes the statement made by HM Treasury on continuity of funding for UK applicants to Horizon 2020, published on 13 August.

The statement provides reassurance for applicants to Horizon 2020 projects, confirming that where applications are submitted while the UK remains a member of the EU HM Treasury will underwrite the payment of awards, even when specific projects continue beyond the UK’s departure from the EU.

The success of UK research is dependent on our best researchers collaborating with partners and sharing facilities across international boundaries. Clarification of the status of UK applicants to Horizon 2020 funding will allow UK researchers and their partners to continue to bid with confidence.

RCUK and our office in Brussels, the UK Research Office (UKRO), continue to work closely with the research community, partners and Government to ensure that the concerns and needs of UK researchers are represented and are considered in the negotiation of a future relationship with the EU.

The Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy has made a longer statement on the research support.
