Rebecca Evans impressed with Pontarddulais Show

As the busy Summer Show season drew to a close, the Deputy Minister for Farming and Food, Rebecca Evans praised the organisation and talent on display at this year’s Pontarddulais Show held on bank holiday Monday (31st August).

Over the summer, the Minister visited many of Wales’ agricultural shows including the Royal Welsh, as well as the county shows in Anglesey, Gower and Pembrokeshire.

Following her visit to the Pontarddulais Show on Monday, the Deputy Minister said:

“Summer shows provide an excellent opportunity for the rural community to come together and celebrate the work and dedication of our farmers and the wonderful array of food they produce.

“I was particularly pleased by the great numbers of young people taking part in the livestock events at Pontarddulais. Their enthusiasm and love of the industry was clear to see, and that is a good sign for the future prospects of our industry here in Wales.

“Our summer shows are important contributors to the local economy, and also provide me with an opportunity to talk to farmers directly about issues facing their individual farm businesses and the industry more widely.

"I would like to extend my congratulations to the organisers, and many volunteers, for making this year’s Pontarddulais Show such a success.”

Held every year on the last Monday of August the Pontarddulais Show is run with the ethos ‘for the betterment of agriculture’. Cattle, sheep, pigs, horses and dogs all feature in the livestock section with horticultural and vintage areas also proving popular with visitors. Exhibitioners attending the showground sold everything from toothbrushes to tractors and the craft tent also hosted a wide range of products including cakes and cards.
