Review of children’s cardiac case notes

Yesterday we have published our findings from an expert review of case notes of children who had undergone heart surgery at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.

Following concerns raised by families, we reviewed clinical outcomes compared to other cardiac centres and looked in depth at the care received by several children between 2012 and 2014.

The panel found that the standard of care provided was comparable with other centres in the UK.

Four years ago we issued a Warning Notice because we were concerned that there were not enough staff available to care for children who were recovering from cardiac surgery.

Our review complements the Bristol Review, an independent review of children’s cardiac services in Bristol, which was published yesterday.
