Richard Heaton announced as new Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Justice

Richard Heaton will replace Ursula Brennan who is retiring after 40 years in the Civil Service.

Richard Heaton, currently Permanent Secretary at the Cabinet Office and First Parliamentary Counsel, will replace Ursula Brennan who is retiring after 40 years in the Civil Service.

The appointment has been signed off by the Prime Minister and by Sir David Normington, The First Civil Service Commissioner. Richard's experience in central government, and legal expertise from his time as First Parliamentary Counsel, will make for a strong offering for the department in its period of transformation.

techUK looks forward to working with Richard in his new role. Building on our past support of the Ministry of Justice in its work on the Common Platform Programme and the Collaborative Digital Information Service - both focused on providing a common digital infrastructure across the criminal justice system – we are keen to work with Richard to help the Ministry of Justice make full use of the wide range of technologies available in its digital agenda.
