Safety award for London Trams

London Trams has gained an award for measures taken to improve safety and security for customers.

The Secure Station Scheme, run jointly between the British Transport Police and the Department for Transport, is a national accreditation awarded to stations or stops that have reached high standards of design and management.

British Transport Police examined all 39 stops to ensure they were all bright and welcoming, with Help Points and CCTV installed to reduce crime and discourage anti-social behaviour.

London Trams also had to carry out surveys to show that passengers felt secure using the system.

London Trams' Director Sharon Thompson said: `I am delighted that London Trams has achieved this milestone. This is a credit to all staff for their hard work improving our stops, and it gives our customers confidence when traveling with us.'

Inspector Jack Ioannou QPM from British Transport Police said: 'Achievement of this award is a credit to London Trams. Secure Stops is not an easy accreditation to receive, and testament to the high priority TfL and the British Transport Police place on ensuring that travelling by tram is a safe and pleasant experience.'
