Scottish Beef Scheme Deadline

Farmers encouraged to submit payment applications immediately.

Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs Richard Lochhead is reminding farmers that the 2014 Scottish Beef Scheme (SBS) closes for applications on December 31.

This is the last year of the current Scottish Beef Scheme and producers should claim before the end of the year for animals born before December 2.

Farmers must register and claim for their eligible cattle before this date in order to ensure that they will receive their payment around April 2015.

Any animal born on or after December 2 2014 can only be claimed under the new 2015 beef scheme, with payment due in 2016.

Mr Lochhead said:

“Scotch Beef is a prime product that is in demand all over the world – and was recently voted the nation’s favourite food and drink product. The current Scottish Beef Scheme, which is worth almost £23 million a year, is aimed at supporting this vital sector.

“I urge farmers to make sure applications for the 2014 programme are submitted ahead of the Hogmanay deadline. I would also advise all farmers to check their past paperwork, as animals that have been the subject of previous claims cannot be claimed for again.”
