Secretary of State congratulates Welsh Water on anniversary

Alun Cairns has hosted a reception for Welsh Water as the company celebrates 15 years as a not-for-profit organisation.

Alun Cairns yesterday (June 28) hosted a reception for Welsh Water as the company celebrates 15 years as a not-for-profit organisation.

The Secretary of State for Wales told guests from the company gathered at Gwydyr House, the Wales Office headquarters in London, that the company had a “history to be proud of”.

Mr Cairns said:

I recall being briefed on the setting-up of Glas Cymru during my time as an Assembly Member so can claim a pretty long association with the company.

It is entirely fitting to have this special reception at Gwydyr House as it was of course a Welsh engineer - Sir Hugh Myddleton - who brought clean water to London in the 17th century.

The company’s business model is a success story for Wales - more than £1 billion has been invested to improve the quality of waste water treatment process which has helped Wales secure 47 Blue Flags.

I am sure it will continue for years to come as an innovative Welsh enterprise.
