Welsh Secretary discusses devolution settlement for Wales with Welsh Assembly leaders

Welsh Secretary Stephen Crabb MP recently (8 December 2014) chaired a meeting with Welsh Assembly leaders on how to create a clear, robust and lasting devolution settlement for Wales.

Mr Crabb discussed a range of issues with Assembly leaders including the case for a reserved powers model for Wales and the recommendations in the second Silk Report with First Minister Carwyn Jones (Labour), Andrew R T Davies (Conservative), Kirsty Williams (Liberal Democrat) and Leanne Wood (Plaid Cymru).

The recent meeting was the latest in a series of discussions that Mr Crabb has been leading with Welsh politicians to help secure cross-party consensus on the future of Welsh devolution.

Mr Crabb said:

I have set an ambitious deadline of St David’s Day next year to publish a blueprint for change to the way Wales is governed.

I want to end the debate around which powers should be devolved to Wales and which should remain at Westminster and focus on the issues that really matter to people – jobs, the economy and better public services.

That’s why I’m working to secure a cross-party consensus to identify the issues that we can agree on so we can reach a broad agreement on the best way forward for Welsh devolution.

The meeting was held at the Welsh Government’s offices in Cathays Park.
