Smart meter derogation guidance | alternative in-home display unit trials

DECC publishes new guidance to support trials of alternative customer engagement tools for smart meters.

DECC have published new guidance supporting energy suppliers who wish to undertake trials of alternative engagement approaches for smart-metering in domestic properties.

The guidance follows February's announcement that suppliers would be able to seek a derogation from the unconditional requirement to offer domestic consumers an In-home Display unit where they instead choose to conduct a trial of alternative means of engaging customers with their smart meter data.

The trials will allow for a greater evidence base to be gathered allowing DECC to determine whether the existing Licence Conditions are optimised and offer the best approach for consumer engagement with potential savings.

The full guidance is available here.

The deadline for trial proposal submission is 30 September 2016.

Submissions must be made using the template provided in the guidance and sent to IHDAlternativeTrials@decc.gsi.gov.uk
