Social Care Expenditure, 2003-04 to 2013-14

Scotland's Chief Statistician today published “Expenditure on Adult Social Care Services, Scotland, 2003-04 to 2013-14”. This publication provides detailed analysis of expenditure on adult Social Care services in Scotland over the decade prior to Health & Social Care integration.

Key points:

  • Just under £3 billion was spent on adult Social Care services in Scotland in 2013-14.
  • Over the period 2003-04 to 2013-14, expenditure on adult Social Care services has increased by 50% in cash terms, by 18% in real terms and by 9% in real terms per-capita of the adult population.
  • The proportion of expenditure that is on community-based, rather than accommodation-based, adult Social Care services has increased from 46% in 2006-07 to 51% in 2013-14.
