Scotland's Chief Statistician yesterday published ‘Social Care Services, Scotland 2014’.

This Statistics Release presents the latest national figures for Social Care services provided or purchased by local authorities in Scotland. All local authorities in Scotland provide Social Care services which give people the support, practical help and personal care that they need to live as independently as possible in the community.

Some of the notable statistics included in the report are:

• In the March 2014 census week, there were 61,740 Home Care clients. This is a slight increase from 2013

• The number of hours provided to Home Care clients has increased to almost 680,000 hours in the March 2014 census week

• In the March 2014 census week, nearly 112,000 clients received a Community Alarm and / or Telecare service. This is down slightly from 114,000 in 2013

• The number of people receiving Direct Payments continues to rise: There were 6,010 people in receipt of direct payment in 2013-14, compared with 5,400 in 2012-13

• Expenditure on direct payments in 2013-14 was £76 million, up from £66 million in 2012-13
