Sorenson Media’s European expansion and job creation supported by Welsh Government

Sorenson Media, an innovator and market leader in next generation television solutions has expanded, created 45 highly skilled jobs, developed new products and expanded into the European market with funding support from the Welsh Government.

The £1m grant from the Welsh Government helped secure the inward investment for Wales, as opposed to Salt Lake City where Sorensen Media’s parent company is headquartered, and assisted the company to quickly grow its European presence and team. The grant was issued in four stages over approximately 18 months as Sorenson Media established and grew its European operation based in Cardiff.

The company has now created 45 high calibre, highly paid, specialist technical jobs and Welsh Government funding also helped speed the opening of its new office in Cardiff and the development of new product offerings.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart met Jim Sorenson, the founder of Sorenson Media Inc. during a visit to Wales. Founded in 1995, Sorenson Media, which is based in Salt Lake City, has been at the forefront of innovation in the world of digital video and television for over twenty years.

Mrs Hart said;

“Sorenson Media operates in one of our fastest growing sectors and I am delighted support from the Welsh Government helped it establish its European headquarters in Cardiff where it is delivering highly skilled jobs.

“The company’s knowledge and competence in the field of next generation television, coupled with the pan-European scope of their offerings for the broadcast industry, provides a strong foundation for continued job creation and technology development in Wales.”

Sorenson Media offers comprehensive next generation television solutions through its Spark platform, providing television broadcasters with detailed viewing analytics, as well as personalization and interactive capabilities needed to improve the viewing experience, earn better ratings, and increase revenue.

“The Welsh Government grant was invaluable in supporting the growth of our Cardiff-based team and consequently the development of Sorenson Media’s products, and our expansion into the European market,”

said Marcus Liassides, President and CEO of Sorenson Media.

“We have had a great and long standing relationship with the Welsh Government and look forward to our continued growth in Wales as we expand our European operations.”
