Students’ award winning projects to join global showcase of innovative products at UK Investment Summit Wales 2014

Creative, innovative and original award winning products developed by three Welsh students will take pride of place at this week’s UK Investment Summit Wales 2014 - highlighting the wealth of young talent in Wales.

The three products – a caravan reversing safety aid, a space saving desk and a dual purpose mobility aid – won top awards in this year’s Wales Student Innovation Awards for Design and Technology. They will be exhibited alongside some of the most technically advanced and exciting products from Wales and the UK.

The conference, at the Celtic Manor Resort (November 20-21) is supported by the UK and Welsh Governments and takes place during Global Entrepreneurship Week, providing an ideal opportunity to promote the young innovators of tomorrow.

The conference brings together global investors, business leaders and ministers and  builds on the spotlight placed on Wales during the NATO summit. It will be a global showcase for Welsh innovation and skills and promote Wales as the location of choice for inward investment.

Economy Minister Edwina Hart said:

“Innovation in all areas of life is essential for a competitive and sustainable economy and I am delighted our schools are nurturing talented designers who are the innovators of tomorrow. Promoting their products at the conference reinforces the message that Wales has the skills and talent that inward investors need to support their business growth."

Richard Davies, (Llanfyllin High School, Powys) won the overall prize for his caravan reversing safety aid, having already been crowned winner of the 2014 Young Engineer for Britain; Myles Chapman, (Ysol Gyfun Gwyr, Gowerton) won the Creativity Award with his space saving desk and Zachary Cater, (Cardiff High School) won the IP award with his dual purpose wheelchair for MS sufferers.
