TUC: Childcare bills are ‘huge strain’ on working families

Commenting on the annual childcare survey published by the Family and Childcare Trust today (Wednesday) TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“Childcare bills are putting many families around the UK under huge pressure.

“It’s shocking that less than half of local councils in England can provide sufficient childcare for working parents. Government cuts to hard-pressed councils have made the situation worse. The situation for parents of disabled children is even more alarming.

“To create a childcare system that works for hard-pressed families, the government must properly fund local government to invest in childcare and in the training and salaries of low-paid childcare workers.”
