TUC: NAO report shows too many people still being paid less than the minimum wage

Commenting on the release of a new report by the National Audit Office showing that an estimated 209,000 people are being paid below the minimum wage, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:

“It is good to see the number of people being underpaid has fallen over the past decade, but far too many people are still being paid less than they are legally owed.

“The government need to step up prosecutions to ensure that bad bosses have nowhere to hide.

“Particular attention is needed in social care, where over 10% of workers are paid less than the minimum wage. Enforcement efforts should be increased in this sector, and the government needs to ensure that social care is adequately funded.”
