TUC: New life expectancy figures reveal danger of hiking up the state pension age
New life expectancy figures reveal danger of hiking up the state pension age, says TUC.
Commenting on yesterday’s (Thursday) ONS statistics on healthy life expectancy, which reveals stark differences across the UK, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady said:
“Given the vast differences in healthy life expectancy between rich and poor, hiking up the State Pension Age risks entrenching inequalities.
“Many older people want to carry on working. But for others this is impossible.
“We need a state pension that works for all.”
Yesterday’s figures come just a week after it was announced that a review of the state pension will be undertaken by former CBI Director General John Cridland.
