TUC: Wage losses may never be restored under current approach

TUC General SecretaryFrances O’Grady commented on the latest labour market data published yesterday (Wednesday) by the Office for National Statistics, which show the employment rate remaining high, but regular annual pay growth down slightly to just 2.1%

“While the employment rate has recovered, it seems to be at the cost of decent pay growth and the quality of jobs.

“Seven years on from the financial crisis, we should be in a much better place. But with the economy slowing down there is a danger that the lost ground on wages will never be recovered.

“The government must do more to invest in skills, infrastructure and public services to create a high wage economy and long term growth.”
