TfL’s 200 new graduate trainee roles

More than 200 new graduate trainee roles have been created by TfL for 2015 as it continues its investment in the next generation of transport professionals.

With London's population set to rise to 10 million by 2030, it's vital the capital has a transport network capable of keeping the city working and growing and making life for residents and visitors better.

To achieve this, a team of dedicated and highly qualified staff is essential in roles such as engineering, finance, project management, transport planning, commercial development, information management and marketing.

Last month, TfL welcomed 130 new graduates who are contributing to some of the biggest projects in the world. Their work includes expanding transport capacity, upgrading the busiest Tube stations and increasing the safety and security of TfL's customers.

Frontline experience

As well as placements across the organisation, TfL graduate trainees also spend time in frontline roles across the transport network to get first-hand experience of providing Tube, bus, rail and other services to customers.

Over the last four financial years, 449 graduate roles have been created by TfL and Crossrail Ltd and this year, 30 per cent of TfL's new graduates were women. With the broad range of roles on offer, TfL will also use the next round of recruitment to encourage more women to consider a future in the transport industry.

TfL opportunities

In addition to the graduate schemes, TfL has an apprentice programme, is a sponsor of the Royal Greenwich University Technical College and gives staff volunteering opportunities through the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths Ambassador Scheme where they go into schools to speak to pupils about the different opportunities available within the organisation.

Since 2007, TfL has consistently appeared in the Graduate Times 100 list for best companies to work for, as voted by graduates. TfL was the highest climber in this year's list, moving up 36 places, as well as being voted Employer of Choice in the Transport & Logistics Award category.
