Thousands helped into employment

Government initiative supports those faced with redundancy.

The Scottish Government is helping thousands of people to find work following redundancy, new figures confired yesterday.

From April 2009 until November 2014, Partnership Action for Continuing Employment (PACE) has supported 70,510 people and 1,695 employers.

Figures taken from this year alone show that 6,917 people and 157 employers have been supported through PACE intervention.

Welcoming the findings the Business Minister Fergus Ewing said:

“We are still working hard to continue to support the Scottish economy and we are concerned at the impact redundancy has on individuals and their families and the surrounding areas.

“That’s why the work of our PACE teams is so important in minimizing the time people who have been made redundant are out of work and helping them into further employment.

“PACE is one of Scotland’s lesser known success stories. It provides real and practical support to people all over Scotland who have been made redundant or who are facing redundancy.

“Over the past year employment in Scotland has increased by 52,000 so it is clear that the relentless focus of the Scottish Government on boosting employment and the economy is delivering progress. As the Scottish economy grows our task is to ensure that everyone is able to benefit from that economic success.”
