Ultra-low emissions could improve health of Londoners

There's just one month left to have your say on the Capital introducing the world's first Ultra Low Emission Zone.

The scheme, which would be introduced in 2020, could significantly improve air quality in London, and with it, people's health.

All vehicles travelling within the Congestion Charge zone would need to meet new emission standards, with drivers who do not fulfil the criteria having to pay a daily charge.

By announcing the requirement next year, we hope to boost the take-up of low-emission vehicles.

The benefits would be widespread. As well as encouraging the use of more sustainable forms of transport, the number of people living in areas of poor air quality would fall significantly and the number of care homes, hospitals and schools exposed to high levels of pollution would be halved.

The consultation is available online until Friday 9 January at
