This week will see unsettled weather continuing to affect the UK as a series of low pressure systems move in from the Atlantic, bringing rain and strong winds at times.

Met Office meteorologists have issued yellow 'be aware' severe weather warnings for wind storm 'Barney' as it brings the potential for wind gusts of 40-50 mph across southern England and 60-70 mph across Wales and the Midlands this evening. Gusts of wind could possibly reach more than 80 mph along exposed Welsh coasts.

Eddy Carroll, Chief Meteorologist, said: "Storm Barney is expected to be a fast moving storm system bringing a few hours of severe gales to southern parts of Britain later this afternoon and evening. It brings the potential for travel disruption and could bring down trees.

"With the strength of the winds, large waves could also affect some coastal areas."

Following further spells of wet and windy weather in the second half of the week we are expecting to see a change in the weather for the weekend as colder air moves across the UK from the north. This will make it feel much colder compared to recently, with temperatures close to or a little below average and bring some wintry showers or snow to higher ground in the north. There could be frost and ice for many overnight.  However none of this is exceptional for Autumn.
