Update on IPCC investigation following death of man near Lydbrook

The IPCC is continuing its investigation into the death of a man in police custody on Thursday 23 June.

It has so far been established that Gloucestershire police went to the Stowfield Business Park at around 11pm on Wednesday 22 June, following a call from members of staff who had come into contact with the man after he got out of a black Range Rover Sport.

The man was detained by police upon their arrival, however his condition deteriorated and an ambulance was called. He was declared dead at the scene just after midnight.

The results of a post mortem held Thursday 23 June were inconclusive, and we are awaiting the outcome of further tests.

IPCC Associate Commissioner Guido Liguori said:

“Our investigation will thoroughly examine the circumstances of the contact the man had with police and others immediately prior to his death.

“My thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time. We are continuing to update them with the progress of ourinvestigation.

“I urge anyone who may have information that can assist our investigation to email witness@ipcc.gsi.gov.uk or call 0800 096 9070.”

The release of the man’s identity awaits the opening of the inquest.
