Update on IPCC investigation into MPS shooting in Clapham

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is independently investigating an incident in which a man was shot by Metropolitan Police officers at an address in South Clapham, London on Friday 21 August 2015.

Unarmed police officers initially attended an address at around 9:45am where they found a 34-year-old man, with dual heritage, at the property. Evidence gathered by IPCC investigators so far indicate that the man was in possession of a handgun at this time.

Armed response officers subsequently attended and remained at the scene for several hours before shots were fired, injuring the man.

He was taken by ambulance to King's College Hospital, where his condition has since improved from critical to stable.

A non-police firearm has been recovered from the scene and will be undergoing forensic tests.

IPCC investigators continued to work at the scene recently (Saturday 22 August) carrying out further forensic examinations and scoping the parameters of the surrounding area for CCTV footage and house-to-house enquiries.    Investigators have made contact with the man's family to explain our role and investigation.
