Veterinary Residues Committee open meeting: 11 September 2014

The Veterinary Residues Committee (VRC) is inviting industry stakeholders and members of the public to its open meeting at 10.30am on Thursday 11 September 2014. The meeting will be held at the Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency near Weybridge, Surrey. The VRC is the independent scientific advisory committee that oversees UK residue surveillance of veterinary medicines in food.

About the VRC and the meeting

The VRC advises Defra, the devolved administrations and the Food Standards Agency on the scope and operation of surveillance for residues of veterinary medicines in food and the significance to consumers of any residues detected.

The meeting will focus on specific topics and issues such as flukicides, possible impact of flooding on residues surveillance and the VRC’s review of their matrix ranking system for assessing veterinary medicines.

The FSA acts as a watchdog to ensure that food safety is given high priority during the authorisation and monitoring processes for veterinary medicines.
