Voter registration deadline passes

The deadline for applying to be registered to vote for the general election and other polls on May 7 passed at midnight on 20 April 2015.

Here are some of the key facts for voter registration on 20 April 2015:

  • there were 485,012 applications
  • this included 469,000 digital applications
  • 9,900 were applications from British citizens overseas
  • 137,400 applications were received from 16-24 year olds

Some of the more general facts about voter registration include:

  • since June there have been 9,218,788 applications: of these, 2,131,017 have been from 16 to 24-year-olds
  • since 1 December there have been 5,236,895 applications: of these, 1,388,862 have been from 16 to 24-year-olds
  • since 1 March there have been 3,029,497 applications: of these, 817,168 have been from 16-24 year olds
  • overall 77% of applications since June have been made online, but this has been over 90% in the last few weeks
  • there have been 68,449 applications from British citizens overseas since 1 March
  • user satisfaction has remained above 90%, with the most recent figure of 94.1%
