WWF responds to the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee's report The Price Of Power: Reforming The Electricity Market

Rebecca Williams, Energy Specialist at WWF commented on the publication of the House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee’s report The Price of Power: Reforming the Electricity Market

“The cost to consumers and the environment will be huge if we don't decarbonise in line with recommendations from the Committee on Climate Change. All technologies and forms of energy production require some method of support in the market, but renewable costs have fallen far more rapidly than most other types of electricity generation.

“What the UK needs now is a flexible, modern electricity system that is fit for the twenty first century. This is how we ensure our energy security. The Lords' report should have explored how this can be achieved at least cost to consumer, rather than harking back to a fossil-fuel driven past."
