Wales stars on the world stage

Wales has been at the centre of the world’s media attention over the last two days and First Minister, Carwyn Jones said the country has excelled on the world’s stage.

This week the country has welcomed the largest political gathering of world leaders ever to be held in the UK, including the first official visit from a serving US President to Wales, for the NATO Summit at the Celtic Manor.

Since it was announced that the summit would be held in Wales, the Welsh Government has been working hard to ensure Wales’ role in this is promoted at every opportunity.

This included receptions around the summit showcasing the best of Welsh produce and promoting Welsh businesses, universities and tourism.

The First Minister said:

“What a fantastic week this has been for Wales. The eyes of the world have truly been on us over the last two days, with images such as the one of world leaders in front of Cardiff Castle, beamed across the world.

“The President himself also gave us the biggest endorsement, praising the extraordinary beauty, wonderful people and great hospitality of our country and saying he would encourage people from the United States to visit here.

“I’m proud that as a country we have stood up to this challenge and especially pleased of how supportive the public have been, ensuring all those visiting, including the additional police and staff, received a warm Welsh welcome.

“The next step is to ensure we keep this momentum going. In the next few months we will hold an investment conference to look at how we can capitalise on this extraordinary publicity and continue to bring benefits to the whole of Wales
