We have launched Create: a new magazine championing the value of art and culture

Recently ACE have published Create, a new journal looking at the value of arts and culture.

This closely follows the results of a survey conducted by ComRes on behalf of the Arts Council, which found that three in five adults say that having more arts and culture in their local area would make it a better place to live. The magazine features a wide range of contributions from writers and artists, politicians to poets discussing the true impact that arts and culture can have on society.

Contributors to Create include:

  • Economist Howard Davies on the economic impact of the arts and creative industries
  •  Novelist Naomi Alderman on running from zombies and writing for video games
  • John Major tells us why the arts are not an 'add-on'
  • Neil Gaiman and Toby Litt going head to head on fantasy, libraries and the future
  • and poet and YouTube phenomenon Hollie McNish discussing using rap to teach maths

Create will also include a specially commissioned graphic story, 'In the beginning there was love', by Karrie Fransman, and new poems from some of the UK's finest wordsmiths.

Sir Peter Bazalgette, Chair Arts Council England said:
‘There is a powerful holistic case for public investment in arts and culture – holistic in the sense that all the benefits are interrelated and need to be considered together and as we look forward to a general election followed by a spending review, this is more important than ever.

‘That’s why we’ve published Create, to help articulate this case; and in their own ways, all the contributors show how the arts are integral to our communities, our education, our health and wellbeing and our national standing – and how public investment in the arts is returned many times over.’
