Welsh Government CSOs safety drive
Heading into the last weekend before Christmas, Welsh Government-funded Community Support Officers (CSOs) and core-funded CSOs are supporting regular officers in protecting consumers and party-goers against crime.
In shopping centres and high streets across the country, teams are increasing their presence. They will be giving advice on keeping purchases, purses and wallets safe, as well as how to take care during nights out in pubs and clubs.
Joining forces with CCTV and store security radio operators to track offenders, CSOs will continue to work with businesses to prevent thefts and anti-social behaviour.
Mobile police stations will be situated in car parks to allow more regular patrols of retail parks and CSOs will be checking on shoplifting offenders.
Teams of CSOs will be patrolling town centres, using mobile stations as a base to talk to shoppers about thefts from handbags, alcohol safety, burglary and online scams.
Public Services Minister Leighton Andrews said:
“The role played by the additional 500 Welsh Government-funded CSOs is invaluable.
“CSOs contribute to an increased presence on the streets alongside Police Officers and CSOs funded by the police themselves. This helps to work as a deterrent to tackle low-level anti-social behaviour and crime at such a busy time of year.”
