Welsh NHS Confederation comments on latest Accident and Emergency waiting times

Vanessa Young, Director of the Welsh NHS Confederation, said: “Despite more than 90,000 people attending an emergency department in Wales in May – the highest number we have seen in a single month since mid-2014 - the NHS has managed to show a small improvement in the percentage of patients that are seen within four hours.

We know there is more to do and our staff are working tirelessly to reduce waiting times further.

"The Welsh NHS wants to work together with patients and the public to reduce the numbers of people coming into our A&E departments by providing the right care, in the right place, at the right time.  We can all help to make our NHS more sustainable by considering alternative services that might be available including the local GP, GP Out of Hours, local pharmacies, NHS Direct and Minor Injuries Units.”
