Welsh NHS Confederation comments on new pilot for ambulance response times

A spokesperson for the Welsh NHS Confederation commented on the announcement that the Welsh Ambulance Service will conduct a 12-month pilot of a new clinical response model to prioritise patient care and move away from time-based targets.

"We welcome this innovative move to develop more patient-focused targets.  While response times for treatment remain very important, especially for certain conditions, the NHS wants to improve the way it measures the quality of care so that we can better reflect how treatment has benefited patients.

"As individuals, the most important thing for all of us is to receive care that is effective as well as timely.  This one-year trial will give us a better understanding of whether people have received the right care at the right time, rather than just whether or not they were seen quickly.”
